End of Year concert last night, its damn amazing how talented across a wide range of areas Ruse is. Certainly a great way to not only showcase but celebrate the muscial talents of our school. Everyone was damn good. EVERYONE. another thought, sometimes people might see band as a money drain, a waste of time etc; some of these might even come from members of the band program itself. 4 years ago, we were very disorganised, practising for maybe only 30minutes a week, and yeah, the program kinda sucked. We sucked. Cue Mr Armitage, and wow, the first year was a real turn around, regular practices, playathons, camps, lunchtime tutorials, making music fun, and 4 years down the track, look where we are. Not cream of the crop, no, but a long way from where we once were! People are caring about the band program, and it means something to them. One example, a couple of Yr9 boys Paul and Evan, yeah, they could just be like oh f band, got better things to do than set up or help other people with band, but no, they actively involve themselves out of what seems to be a heartfelt enjoyment for the program, and not out of duty! its really amazing to see people pour their heart out (well not really) into some group activity whatever, they care for, and so long there are people with this selfless drive, the group will flourish i reckon. Anyway four years down, the band program has certainly flourished, with now 4 bands and 250 people in the program (THATS MORE THAN A QUARTER OF OUR SCHOOL!!!), and each one of them sounded fabulous last night; the intermediate and junior bands consisting of mainly yr7s+8s definitely sounded better than what our concert band, with the likes of chris barry, danny ma, ringo and what not, sounded like 4 years ago. Anyway, a very big kudos to mr armitage, a great mentor, and a great worker behind the scenes. he flies under the radar too much, maybe he prefers it that way. dunno.
Anyway, playing with stage band and wind ensembles and whatever was an absolute blast last night!!! Had not had so much fun making music in a long time :) What a way to end the year!
also i think i'm gonna slowly go insane; this year my brother will only be down in sydney for maybe 10 days during the christmas break. thats like ten days in the past 6 months! miss him heaps. also he kinda forces me to be a little less slob than I am now. haha is it worth doing physio in queensland?
